Berbagi Pengalaman dari Frances Widjaja (NTU Chemistry and Biological Chemistry 2013)

HAPPY TIMES

1. In NTU, there are a lot of clubs. I join:
  • NTU Students Union (similar to OSIS in Junior High School). I am currently working as a publicity officer in NTUSU Welfare Initiative Club, planning to be a WIC Director next year. WIC itself is a portfolio in NTUSU that is in charge of Exam Welfare packaging and distribution, Peer Tutoring Scheme, NTU Welcome Back to School (at the start of a new semester), and Midterm Boost (occasionally).
  • Dancing club, e.g: what I am joining currently is salsa-en-sync, a club where we learn dancing salsa and bachata. This club will perform in school's week (e.g: EEE week, MSE week), and in Joint Dance Concert some more (it's an annual event under NTU CAC; or Cultural Activities Club). I really enjoy all the trainings and friendships that I have with my fellow salsa peeps :) Other than that, we also have some other like Soul & Funky-Popping and locking, Kinetics-Tap Dance, MJ-HipHop, Dance Sport Academy-Latin Dance, and many more. :) I know a lot of dancers from other dancing clubs because I joined Fusion dancing in Join Dance Concert and got to dance other genres like Lindy Hop and Contemporary dance.
  • School clubs. I am taking CBC as my major and hence I belong to School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS Club). I am currently a Publication and Publicity member, and hence designing school's magazine and taking pictures for events.
*keep a look out for these organizations during the open booth at the start of the first semester!

2. Indonesian Organisations: PINTU (Pelajar Indonesia NTU), GTD (Get Together Day-Indonesian Students orientation days), ICN (Indonesia Cultural Night). I have never joined ICN, but seems that all my friends who join it say it is very fun as well since it is a musical theatre which show Indonesia's traditional story like Ken Arok.

3. Exam Welfare Package! :) before every exam period, usually we will get exam welfare packages; e.g: from NTUSU (the organization I am joining currently), SPMS Club, or other organizations like CAC (NTU Cultural Activities Club), and many more!

4. Second major in Food Science and Technology! At first, I was disappointed because I did not find any major in Food, but recently, just nice, they opened a second major in FST for CBC, CBE and SBS first year students :) It  is only opened for 30 students (10 top students from each school), but hopefully I can get in :)

5. Recording Lectures. I have never thought that I will input this as a happiness contribution but I found out a new way of learning which is so effective to me (sadly I found it 3 weeks before the exam period, but thankfully it is still sufficient) which is to bind all the lecture notes together (it looks like a book rather than piles of paper), and use the back side of the lecture note to write supplementary notes for the slides. I tried to write most new words and sentences from the recording lectures, as I will find them very useful later on to refer during my time doing the past year exam papers.

6. Summer Research. I have not done any, but I am registered to join a summer research this summer :) I am still very excited about it (even though it means that I will have to sacrifice a period of time of my holiday, but it is still worth it compared to part time or anything, in my opinion).

HARD TIMES

1. During JDC (Joint Dance Concert) period, I did not spend so much time to study like I used to in the first semester. Hence, I think I will get a decrease in my GPA, hope it won't be too much tho.

2. JDC Period makes us go training 4 times a week (for people like me who join Fusion some more), and sometimes I could not finish my other commitments' tasks. However, I still think that it is a part of growing up, as I can learn how to manage my time better.

Anyway to sum everything up, I still find that there are more happy times than the hard times that I had in NTU. So, NTU is still the best uni to live and pursue my happiness and dreams! :)
